Me Plus Too

I keep trying to come up with the right words to express what this family, particularly the gorgeous mama, mean to me. I’m having a hard time coming up with the right stuff, but I can say that Robyn and I have been friends for a little less than 10 years, and I am so thankful to be able to call her my friend. She just gets me. Robyn is the kind of friend who makes you laugh til you pee, but also knows exactly how to hold your hand through those less-laughable moments.

A few years ago, when Matt and I were trying for what would end up being Grace, I miscarried a baby at about 11 weeks. It was horrible and I was devastated. My friends comforted me the best way they knew how to, with “I’m sorry,” and “It happens to a lot of women” and “You’ll get pregnant again.” But as I recovered after my D & C, the doorbell rang. It was Robyn. And in her hands, she held the most glorious comfort of all.

A heavy, grease stained bag from In-N-Out. (Can you hear the angels singing?!?! I can!) She just knew. Sorrys were plentiful … but high caloric food??? A blessing.

Four kids later (between the two of us), she doesn’t judge me when my phone greeting is, “I don’t think I can do this anymore!” or “I’m gonna kill them!” or “I have locked myself in a closet. It’s the only way.” … in fact, her response is usually, “Ahhh! Me too!”

And I love that about her.

She’s the Too to my Me.

And she has ferocious love for her two little kiddos, Trent and Jenna. (Me too.) And she adores her husband. (I’m gonna skip ‘Me too’ on this one, because that would be just creepy. But I will say that he is pretty awesome.)

We did this session a little before Christmas, and I never got around to blogging it, but I am so glad that I am sharing it now because I think the love that this family has for one another just shines in these photos. Robyn and Dave, thanks so much for wonderful session, and more importantly, for being such fab friends.

Beautiful shots – they look so young and fresh (the children too :))

Seriously – lovely story and great portraits – you can just tell how at ease you are with each other as you got some great, natural expressions!

Love these and love your story (where is the part where I did laundry? haha!).

They're all great, but faves are the Mother & Daughter and Father and Son ones. Super special!!!

Robyn – you should be a personal shopper or something – the color coordinating outfits are spot on!

Oh My Gosh. A tear. When did you get all sneaky and post this? I was just doing my usual checking of your blog to see if you've done any new photo shoots and saw my name in the first paragraph and had to stop and read. Hee hee. I love you. Yes, we totally get each other. And you are hilarious, way more hilarious than anyone I've ever known. We can laugh about anything. I hate how busy we both are but I know all we have to do is pick up the phone and we get caught up in seconds and feel like we haven't missed a beat.

You're so clever to make up fake names like "Sue" and "Jan" but that's just the kind of friend you are, so thoughtful.

I don't know why I chose In N Out. And I'm sorry I didn't even bring any for your mom. How rude. I didn't know she'd be there!

And I just had to laugh at your description of our loving photoshoot because I was so frustrated with my kids at the end and didn't even think you got any good shots, but of course you worked your magic and you did. I love the ones of us playing around with the kids. Those are the most important ones.

Maybe I should've just emailed you…
