WWDLS (1)

“There’s a hundred and four days of summer vacation, and school comes along just to end it.”

-Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher

(First of all, can we pause for a moment and reflect on the fact that Phineas and Ferb are step brothers? Who knew? Thanks Wiki.)

I’m actually embarrassed to admit that I am trying yet another photo project. Seriously, I think I have commitment issues and can’t stay on task with these things. So I am totally not going to tell you that I really want to make an album of my kids with a photo a day from their summer vacation. And I am not going to call it WWDLS (What we Did Last Summer), nor post my favorites every week(ish) because, let’s face it I have made some super cute humans.

So, kids, here’s what you did during the first week of summer:

You went to the beach.  You all were obsessed with finding sand crabs, and as gross as they looked swimming around by the dozens in your sand pail, I was pretty overwhelmed by how awesome it was to see you all working together.  For thirteen and a half minutes.  Whatever, I’ll take it.

You created this ensemble and started singing the Thrift Shop song and mom was worried because apparently you know the lyrics.  And not the Kidz Bop version.  Stop growing up, or you’re grounded.

You (and Your Hair) graduated from preschool.  You were the last of my babies to do so, and it made me both proud and a little lot sad at the same time.

You shared.  You are always sharing with this particular recipient, which is why he is ten lbs. overweight and is always breathing his hot nose breath on me under the table during meals.

We went swimming.

You travelled up to Pasadena for a birthday celebration.

It wasn’t just any old birthday celebration though, it was for Great Grandma’s 97th birthday.  Great Grandma is one of those people you wish everyone could meet.  But I can tell you already know that.

While we were at Grandma’s I made you all sit with me for a photo.  I know it was a drag for you, but I cannot tell you what it meant to me to have this because you know how I get all weird about getting in front of the camera and that’s just stupid.  I vow to suck it up and get in more photos with you.  Assuming there is no mascara shortage, then the deal is off.  But until then.

Finally, you and your friends made horror movies with the iPad.  This one was clearly titled “Summer Vacation: The Kids Will Be Home for Three Months.”

You are obsessed with making movies; and as much as it bugs me when I realize you stole my phone charger for the 17th time that day, I’m not mommy-faking my amazement at your skills.  I hope you’ll thank me at the Oscars.  Or at least mention I loaned you my charger.

Here’s to the next 97 days of summer…
